Rich's Bio

A seasoned admissions consultant, Rich has worked in college counseling and admissions since 2002, supporting students and families from both the institutional and school-based sides of the process. He holds two degrees: a BA in psychology with a minor in Latin from Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire; and an MA in counseling psychology with a specialization in school counseling from Lesley University. While completing graduate school, Rich served as Associate Director of Admissions at Lesley University, an experience that confirmed his passion for helping young people think expansively and realistically about their futures. “Students often have worries and concerns that they don’t always feel comfortable expressing openly,” Rich says. “I love being their advisor and earning their trust, so I can help them navigate a confusing and sometimes daunting college landscape.” Outside of one-on-one consulting, Rich is a school counselor at Brookline High School, where he has developed and led college counseling and advising workshops for students across Brookline since 2005.

As an admissions consultant, Rich takes a holistic, student-centered approach to college planning, helping families think carefully about academic fit, personal fit, and financial fit. He has extensive experience guiding students through the financial aid process and believes that affordability should be part of the college conversation from the start. As such, Rich works closely with students and families to understand aid packages and the tradeoffs between different options, empowering students to make choices that support both their goals and their future well-being. He also has extensive experience advising students navigating the athletic recruiting process at the Division I, II, and III levels. “This includes strategizing coach outreach and identifying target colleges,” Rich says.

Whether working with high-achieving students facing complex financial decisions or those balancing academics, athletics, and unique personal circumstances, Rich emphasizes transparency and long-term thinking. He often reminds students that they are the “boss” in the process, while he serves as their counselor, offering perspective, asking the right questions, and supporting them every step of the way. Rich believes that the college planning process should begin well before a student’s senior year, and his ultimate goal is to help students recognize how their academic efforts, extracurricular involvement, and personal growth throughout high school contribute to future success. “I have enjoyed connecting with and advising families and students as they begin this important journey,” Rich reflects.

In addition to his work in secondary education and consulting, Rich teaches graduate-level courses in counseling psychology at Lesley University. He began his career in service as a full-time AmeriCorps NCCC volunteer. As both an educator and a parent—his eldest daughter is currently a high school junior—Rich brings both professional insight and personal empathy to the admissions process. “Although high school can be stressful, I also believe it is a time for students to have fun,” Rich says. “I enjoy interacting with students in different spaces outside of my office and have coached students in flag football, as well as serving as the advisor for both the Chess Team and the Race Reels Club.”

When not working, Rich enjoys reading and even started his first book club this past year. He also enjoys spending time at the gym, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, and being a husband and dad to his family.
