PrepNow Tutor - David M.
A seasoned admissions consultant, David has a wide range of experience across higher education, law, and public service. He holds a BA in history and biomedical ethics from Brown University and a JD in public law from Cornell Law School. After law school, David served in the U.S. Navy and then practiced immigration law for over a decade before transitioning into higher education. He worked as a Pre-Law Advisor at Northeastern University, taught international students in career readiness courses, held roles at Suffolk University Law School, and led a veterans program at the University of Massachusetts Boston. He joined the Brown University admissions team in 2018 and has worked in private admissions counseling since 2019.
Throughout his work as an admissions consultant, David has mentored students with a wide range of academic interests, including STEM, the humanities, the social sciences, and the arts. He has also guided students with diverse backgrounds, including international students, military veterans, first-generation students, and recruited athletes. “I take a student-centered mentoring approach, encouraging students to lean into their strengths and intellectual curiosities,” David says, noting that a favorite part of his work is helping students build balanced college lists and develop distinctive, memorable application essays. David believes the college experience is not only about academic growth, but also about learning to engage with a wide range of perspectives, and this philosophy guides his consulting.
A native New Englander who has lived in seven states, David enjoys spending time with his family along the Eastern coastline and considers himself an amateur gardener and vintner. As a parent of three children who have each navigated the college admissions process in different academic areas, he brings both professional and personal insight to his work with students and families.
