PrepNow Tutor - Sarah J.
An admissions consultant with over fifteen years of experience guiding families through high-stakes admissions decisions, Sarah holds a BA in political science from New York University, a certificate in secondary education and teaching from Florida International University, and a certificate in college admissions counseling from Harvard University. Sarah was inspired to enter admissions work because she had an excellent high school counselor who took the time to thoroughly guide her through the admissions process. “That made all the difference, so I wanted to do the same for students,” Sarah says. After graduating from NYU, Sarah worked as a teacher for six years before transitioning into college counseling when she was asked to build the college counseling program at a new K-12 private school that her kids attended. “I ended up working there for fifteen years and, throughout that time, I also created the college counseling program for two of their other campuses in another state,” Sarah shares.
As a consultant, Sarah specializes in building personalized college lists, guiding students through admissions strategy, essay development, and application planning, with a strong focus on practical, individualized support. She’s worked extensively with diverse student populations, including first-generation and multilingual families, and provides clear, honest guidance throughout the admissions journey. Her favorite part about admissions consulting is learning about students’ unique interests and talents, and helping them strengthen and highlight those interests and talents throughout the admissions process.
“I am very big on finding the right fit college and having students really be honest about what they really want, because the hardest part really isn't getting in, it's actually being successful and happy where you end up attending,” Sarah says. “I attended NYU because it was a top school, but in reality, I probably would've had a better college experience at a smaller college with a closed campus.”
Sarah loves to travel and learn about different cultures and ways of life. She is currently learning Italian. She also loves crime documentaries.
