Brianna's Bio

A math and science tutor who loves character-building challenges, Brianna holds an AS in the dual fields of biology and mathematics from Clovis Community College as well as a BS in biology from the University of California, Los Angeles, where she graduated with departmental honors. She is pursuing an MS in medical science, with a concentration in physiology, from the University of Florida and is currently applying to medical schools. Since earning her bachelor’s degree, Brianna has volunteered in various clinical settings, held numerous internships, and worked as a substitute teacher and tutor.

Brianna started tutoring when she was a senior in high school and her AVID teacher suggested that she tutor other students because of all the advanced placement classes she had taken (AVID is an academic support program). “I agreed and immediately grew a liking to helping other students,” Brianna says, explaining that she continued to mentor peers throughout college. “I am now tutoring again because I find it to be very rewarding,” Brianna shares. “It makes me feel good to see students becoming more confident in their academics.” Brianna has primarily tutored high schoolers in chemistry, biology, and math up to calculus; but, more broadly, she has also tutored students from kindergarten to college level in English, science, and math. As a substitute teacher, she has taught English language arts, algebra through trigonometry, chemistry, and elementary curricula.

Brianna describes her teaching style as visual-focused, as she loves to draw and use figures throughout her lessons to help increase student understanding. However, she recognizes that not everyone learns the same way. “I always like to ask my students how they grasp information best and then I alter my teaching style and lessons to accommodate them,” Brianna says. “I am very patient and understanding with my students. I do not mind continuously reviewing concepts, as long as my students are learning. I also like to give positive reinforcement to my students. I do believe that everyone can learn, with confidence and hard work.”

In high school, Brianna was involved in leadership, was on the swim team, and took a variety of different advanced placement classes; she also danced jazz, tap, and ballet. In college, she was in a ballroom dance club, worked various jobs, and also joined a sorority where she held different executive positions. She also was a member of the Global Medical Training Club, which allowed her to travel to Perú to provide free healthcare to the locals.

When Brianna is not working, she loves to learn interesting facts, travel, spend time with family and friends, go shopping, and paint and draw. “I enjoy being outdoors and always take up the opportunity to go camping!”
