PrepNow Tutor - Adriana M.

Adriana is a continuing scholar with keen interests in the electrical engineering discipline, ranging from nanotechnology to biomedical imaging. She holds a BS in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University, and she is pursuing an MS in the same field at her alma mater. As she moved through her own schooling, Adriana has offered peer tutoring in physics 1 and 2 and in various math disciplines, including algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus 1 and 2.
Adriana’s approach to tutoring is to supply the tools necessary for students to flourish but to ask them to take the initiative on reaching their goals. That is, rather than leading a student directly to an answer, she is more apt to explain how the student can get there on their own and then nudge the student to do so. In this way, Adriana ensures that the student is getting guidance but is also learning independently, fostering the ability to continue to succeed past her tutoring. That said, Adriana, is available to provide added guidance, as required, and in ways that accommodate each student’s needs. She says, “If a student does not understand a topic, I talk them through it and assist the student in a way catered to their learning style, whether it be verbal explanation or visual learning.” She particularly finds using analogies and concrete examples helpful to assist students’ learning processes, as these strategies are adaptable.
While in high school, Adriana was active in the color guard and the soccer team. She still likes to stay active, playing pickup soccer and sand volleyball whenever she has the chance. She also likes to travel, having already been to Puerto Rico and Spain, and with ambitions to visit Japan, Iceland, and Switzerland, among other locales. As she awaits her next excursion, Adriana enjoys reading manga, watching anime, and keeping up with shows and movies based upon books.
