PrepNow Tutor - Nick M.
Math whiz Nicholas has experience tutoring pre-algebra, algebra I and II, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus I-III, differential equations, linear algebra, and more. For 7 years, he worked with students in various capacities, such as an ACT proctor and Summer CARE Leader, as part of the Novi Community School District. His drive and goal-oriented approach help students struggling with test anxiety and study habits. He’s also an instructor at a math learning center.
Nicholas earned an associate’s degree from Schoolcraft College and a BA in mathematics with a minor in computer science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He tutored throughout his academic career and is proud of having helped a high school friend boost their grade in calculus. “Since then, I have thoroughly enjoyed being able to help others see exactly what they are capable of, academically speaking,” he shares. “I don't think I have a single proudest moment; however, I am in general always proud when a tough concept makes sense to any of my students.”
Nicholas’ style is adaptive and focused on fostering critical thinking skills. “I like to adapt my lessons based on how I can best/most easily make a logical connection for the student; building logical connections indicates a true understanding of the content and can make understanding of future content come a lot easier,” he explains. While memorization can be a useful tool, he aims to give students the foundational skills they need to approach and apply new materials with confidence.
In high school, he participated in track and ultimate frisbee. He continued running and playing intramural sports in college. He was also an active member of the University of Michigan’s Math Club. He’s proud to share that he was invited to participate in mathematical research, which was displayed within the department. With a knack for language, his German zine and scripts were nominated for awards by the German Language Department.
When he’s not hiking or running outdoors, Nicholas loves to read and listen to music.
Fun familial fact: “I only recently found out that I have a half-brother (and by extension I am an uncle to twins!)”
