PrepNow Tutor - Silas W.
With a proven track record in personalized instruction, Silas excels in making complex concepts accessible and simple. From languages (Spanish and Italian) and maths (algebra, geometry, and calculus) to machine learning and test prep (SAT), he has helped dozens of students overcome learning blocks. Silas speaks three languages—Spanish, “some” Italian, and German—and is currently learning Brazilian Portuguese.
He holds a BA in mathematics as well as an MA in applied and computational mathematics from St. John's University. Since college, he has worked as a full-time academic tutor, freelance photographer, and recruiter at Scholastic (provider of literacy curricula). “I've always had an interest in instruction and teaching, whether that be as a part-time soccer instructor in high school or a math and language tutor in college,” he shares.
Silas’ style is adaptive and hands-on. “As a graduate assistant, my teaching was primarily lecture-based, but I often use a hands-on approach for younger students learning foundational math concepts,” he notes. He’s quick to decipher what each student needs and employs the most efficient methods to fill those gaps. “It is crucial to maintain an open mind when teaching, as every student has unique learning preferences and needs,” he adds.
As a student, he played soccer and ran track. Outside of work, Silas is a professional photographer and plays guitar. He enjoys gaming, illustration, cooking, baking, and traveling.
