Roxanna's Bio

Roxy graduated summa cum laude from the Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in special education. Since graduating, Roxy has worked with students ranging from those with severe delays to the gifted in both public and private school settings. She completed the summer independent graduate studies program at The University of California, Santa Barbara, and went on to develop all curriculum and programming for the Children's Unit at Belmont Pines Hospital. She taught at Belmont Pines for one year before relocating to another city where she taught two years of junior high school. She has homeschooled her own sons and one other student for the past eight years.

Roxy also has extensive experience working with students preparing for the PSAT, SAT, and ACT. As a National Merit Commended Scholar, Roxy empathizes with students who have high ambitions for their SAT and ACT test scores. She has worked with test prep students starting at various score levels and is comfortable working with students at both ends of the score spectrum, as well as in between.

Though she has taught in many different environments, Roxy notes that one-on-one support is usually most effective. She says, "With individualized instruction, I know when my students are struggling and I can go back and re-teach a concept until they are comfortable with the material. I usually get one or two 'aha!' moments each session." She believes her greatest quality as a tutor is her ability to discover her students' interests and to incorporate those interests into her lessons. She feels her role as a tutor is to always be prepared for her lessons, work to individualize her support, and keep parents informed of student progress.

Roxy lives with her family and her behaviorally-challenged cat, Shadow. She enjoys literature, volunteering with her church, biking, and board games. Roxy and her family have mastered the art of the "staycation" and claim to have "hit every site to see within a two hour drive" of their home.
