Bill has a PhD in musicology from Kent State University, an MM in music performance from Kent State University, and a BM in music education from Ohio Wesleyan University. He is retired and currently tutoring in his free time.
Bill believes there is no viable one-size-fits-all approach to tutoring, and that to be successful, tutoring must be geared towards the needs, goals, and abilities of the individual student. He has more than 25 years of teaching experience at the college level (music history, ethnomusicology, humanities, western civilization). He has also taught private music lessons to students from the fifth grade to twelfth-grade levels. His extensive experience includes tutoring students for the ACT, SAT, GRE, and other standardized tests.
Long interested in pedagogical methods and integrative learning, Dr. G has developed numerous interdisciplinary courses and often works as a consultant to educational organizations and corporations. Bill is the recipient of two National Endowment for the Humanities fellowships and is a winner of the National Opera Association's scholarly paper competition. He is also an active performer on both clarinet and saxophone and has been an invited recitalist at the International Clarinet Society in London.
When he is not tutoring, Bill enjoys traveling the world to read papers at conferences, attend opera and theater performances, visit museums, and explore new locales. In addition to travel, his interests include vegetable gardening, cooking, reading, stamp collecting, and astronomy.
