PrepNow Tutor - Sabil K.
Sabil is a high school geometry and engineering teacher with four years of classroom experience. In addition to STEM topics, he has four years of experience prepping students for the SAT and ACT.
He earned a BA in political science from Boston College. His foray into teaching came about after witnessing the holistic empowerment education can offer. “As I gained more experience working with students, I discovered how rewarding it was to help them overcome challenges, build confidence, and develop problem-solving skills,” he notes.
In addition to teaching, he recently spearheaded an after-school woodworking program that offers students hands-on experiences with craftsmanship and construction. He has also served as the varsity soccer coach for 4 years and counting.
Sabil feels a wash of pride when he sees struggling, frustrated students master new skills and gain confidence, particularly in math. “Watching a student go from believing they ‘aren't good at math' to solving complex problems independently is incredibly rewarding because it demonstrates the impact that encouragement, perseverance, and effective instruction can have on a student's growth and self-belief,” he shares.
Sabil describes his approach as “warm but demanding.” He’s quick to assess learning gaps and strengths to best support each student’s needs. “I believe in meeting students where they are at,” he notes. Ultimately, he aims to build more diligent, independent learners and thinkers.
At BC, he was on the dean’s list and played tennis and soccer. “My favorite soccer team is Arsenal FC!”
Outside of teaching, he loves biking, cooking, reading, playing board and card games, watching soccer, and spending time with his cat, Rhubarb, “who is named after my favorite dessert: rhubarb pie.”
