Anna's Bio

An energetic and dedicated educator, Anna wants every student to feel confident in themselves and achieve their dreams. She received her BA in elementary education and political science from Boston University, where she was on the Dean's List. In addition to her experience as a test prep tutor, Anna has worked as a teacher for one year in an urban public school and enjoys every minute of mentoring students and helping them grow into the best versions of themselves.

"I love teaching because of how different every day is," Anna says. "I enjoy creating new and interesting ways to engage students. I enjoy the challenge of creating fun lesson plans. I feel at home in classrooms. I love everything about teaching." Anna has taught language arts, math, science, and social studies to grades first through sixth. While in college, she tutored the ACT/SAT for two years, eventually becoming the program manager of the tutoring center. As a tutor, Anna is very friendly and encourages her students to always participate. She enjoys asking questions to keep them engaged as she wants the lesson to be a conversation rather than her lecturing. "I think students learn more when they are connected to the person teaching them," Anna says.

Anna enjoys specifically tutoring test prep because it's a way for her to provide a service she was never able to receive, as she taught herself when preparing for the exams. "While I was successful, it was still stressful and I wanted to help other students in my situation receive mentorship," Anna explains. She started volunteering as a tutor freshman year. "Seeing students’ faces light up when they understand something or hearing the joy in their voice when they get a hard question is why I love test prep," she says. "I love seeing how dedication and support pay off."

When asked about her inspiration to work in education, Anna says, "I always loved working with students, but did not think teaching was for me until I read Savage Inequalities by Jonathan Kozol. My elementary school was mentioned in this book as one of the worst schools in the county. When I attended, it was far from the images described in the book. As I asked questions, I realized that educators were the reason the transformation happened. The dedication that the educators had to transform the school and create a better education for the students in the neighborhood inspired me to get into education."

In school, Anna played volleyball and participated in student government, a book club, a creative writing club, National Honor Society, Key Club, and tutoring programs. She enjoys baking, reading, and hiking. "I am always very involved with my community and was the president of my college's undergraduate student government," she shares.
