Richard's Bio

A tutor who is focused on always achieving the best, Richard holds a JD from Georgetown University, an MS in management from Temple University, an MBA from Pepperdine University, and a BA in public recreation administration from the College of New Jersey. He is currently a senior professional at an insurance asset management company that he built and sold to his partners. Previously, he built an insurance holding company platform, acted as a managing director on a trading platform with a global reinsurance company, and has worked at a global investment bank and multinational law firm.

Richard got started in test prep initially as a student when he enrolled in a GRE course at a learning center. After he excelled on the exam, he was hired to tutor SAT and GRE prep, and later the LSAT. “This lead to not only ten years of teaching LSAT, SAT, and GRE test prep but ultimately to graduating magna cum laude at Georgetown Law School and a highly successful career in international law and finance,” Richard shares. In addition to tutoring test prep, he has also taught advanced ESL since 2020. Richard emphasizes that the SAT is not about attempting to solve PhD-level math problems but rather taking a finite set of math skills and testing them in a unique format.

As a tutor, Richard focuses on student involvement to help his students build confidence in key test-taking skills. He notes that most students have the knowledge base to succeed but often struggle to apply it to the standardized test-taking environment. “Ultimately, the one common factor that separates students that attain or surpass their goals from others is just consistent, daily, non-glamorous grinding away at improving their skills,” Richard says. “Sometimes it is frustrating, most times no one is watching, but improving one’s SAT score by 50+ points is most often accomplished only by consistent and persistent practice.”

In his twenties, Richard was a martial arts champion. He graduated magna cum laude from law school and participated in law review. He enjoys martial arts, running, weight training, international travel, reading, and podcasts. His genres of choice are philosophy, history, memoir, and historical fiction.
