PrepNow Tutor - Eva S.
Eva’s love for teaching began when she worked with students in an after-school program she had previously attended. Over four years, she learned a well of knowledge on educating and communicating with students ages 5 to 11. By the time she left, she was an assistant teacher! Eva’s also a two-time AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Reads member, a role in which she developed a youth literacy curriculum, worked with students, and led other AmeriCorps members.
From activity planning to incorporating literacy into STEAM curriculum, she’s enthusiastic about finding dynamic, creative ways to reach students. She holds a BA in geography from Macalester and, as of fall 2022, she’s pursuing her JD at the University of St. Thomas Law School.
Eva’s tutoring approach is collaborative and personable. “I try to make students feel as comfortable as possible asking questions, presenting multiple strategies, figuring out what strategies work well for each student individually,” she explains. She’s also well-versed in helping students adopt more efficient test-taking strategies, particularly when it comes to managing anxiety and pacing during timed tests. “I firmly believe that any subject or standardized test can be learned, you just need to figure out how to learn it best!”
In high school, Eva’s academic performance earned her the title of “Top Ten Student” and admittance to the National Honor Society. She enjoyed participating in Quiz Bowl, Knowledge Bowl, Nordic skiing, and track.
Outside of work and school, she loves reading, running outside, cooking new recipes, and baking cookies.
