Brittany's Bio

A hard worker who loves to uplift others, Brittany does her best to make her students feel heard. She holds a BA in music - instrumental studies from High Point University and is currently pursuing an MA in counseling from West Texas A&M University. After graduating from college, Brittany worked as a youth librarian, a paraprofessional, a licensed teacher, and a 911 dispatcher. In addition to working on her master’s degree, Brittany currently works as a substitute teacher and a test prep tutor. She holds teaching certifications in elementary education and special education

Brittany has been teaching since 2015. She has several years of experience teaching elementary education at all levels and special education to K-4. As a tutor, she has worked with students from elementary to high school level on a variety of subjects, particularly ACT/SAT prep. She has mentored students with special needs of varying levels and, having worked as a 911 dispatcher for four years, she can remain calm in almost every situation. “I work hard to make sure every student reaches their goals,” she says. Brittany recognizes that once you’re able to form a bond with a student, they are often better able to come out of their shells and are more willing to learn more about the subjects that they may have been struggling with. As such, she always prioritizes connecting with her students.

"My teaching and tutoring style is first and foremost the mindset that all students have it within themselves to achieve their goals,” Brittany says. “I’m very much a believer that each student is different, and has a variety of strengths. By playing to these strengths, and utilizing a student's individualized interests, I do my best to make learning interesting and engaging for all levels.” Brittany’s teaching style is inspired by the fact that she was underestimated as a student and she was only finally able to thrive academically after having a teacher who believed in her. “With the impact she made still lingering in my life, I hope to be able to instill this feeling of achievement in the students I work with,” Brittany says.

As a high school student, Brittany attended the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities, one of the only residential arts high schools in the country. There, she studied music, was a member of the National Honors Society, and was a board member of the Connecting Arts Through Service community service club. In college, Brittany was a board member of the Teachers of Tomorrow Club, a Presidential Scholar, and a swim team club member.

When Brittany isn’t busy with work or school, she loves playing bassoon, which she’s played for over twenty years. She also loves baking, both alone and as a bonding experience with her sixteen-year-old stepdaughter. “I have a form of dwarfism called hypochondroplasia,” Brittany shares. “My type of dwarfism was caused by a genetic mutation, so I am quite literally an X-man!”
