Maggie's Bio

Maggie has experience working with college-level students in physics but is confident working with students of all levels. She double majored in physics and English at Loyola University Maryland (the Honors College), where she was a teaching assistant and president of the Physics Club. She graduated with her BS degree in 2024 and is saving up for graduate school.

At LMU, she won the Hauber Fellowship to work alongside physics and computer science professors in course development. “We spent a summer figuring out how best to explain quantum computing to students from mixed disciplines,” she explains.

While she’d often volunteered as a tutor, her passion for tutoring took off in college, when she was a teaching assistant for the physics department. Her proudest moment: “getting mobbed in the physics hallway after an exam some of my students had taken. They were so excited to tell me how they’d thought the test had gone, and very proud to inform me that they’d killed it. It was really nice to hear them joking and confident, and I was honored that they’d sought me out to share in that!”

“My goal as a tutor is to help students develop an intuitive sense of physics,” she shares. While she heavily focuses on foundational skills, she also emphasizes creativity, allowing each student to develop their own approach. When it comes to intimidating exams, she highlights organization and essential skills (like equations) to help students quell test anxiety and think on their feet. “At its core, physics is a class that asks you to develop strong internal logic and problem-solving skills,” she notes.

Maggie was inducted into the Loyola chapter of Phi Beta Kappa for graduating in the top percentile of her class. Her dedication to her work as a tutor and TA also earned her the Physics Departmental award. As an English student, she received three book awards for making significant contributions to the class—hers were for courses on James Joyce’s Ulysses, Shakespeare’s comedies, and an honors seminar on metamorphoses in literature.

In her free time, she played the saxophone as part of LMU’s jazz ensemble. Currently, she’s a “sucker for a good murder mystery book” like Agatha Christie’s Poirot. She’s also keen to try new recipes, dirty her hands in the garden, and play Dungeons and Dragons with friends. “I love the outdoors and working with my hands just as much as I love libraries and math problems,” she notes.

Fun fact: she’s almost always wearing a pair of bright yellow Converse sneakers.
