PrepNow Tutor - Annah H.
Annah has experience tutoring 2nd-5th graders in ELA and helping college-level students find their writing voice. She earned a BA and MA in literature and creative writing from Miami University, where she tutored at the writing center; she also holds minors in technical writing and women's, gender, and sexuality studies. As of 2025, she’s earning an MSEd in secondary education from Northwestern.
In high school, she volunteered to tutor elementary students, and the joy of the experience stuck with her. Her love of helping students strengthen their skills and witnessing their development later led her to teach in small group settings in the Chicago public school system. Her proudest moment was when she worked as a writing consultant. “After talking through my student's piece, they thanked me profusely for the session. They said that being able to talk through their thoughts with my eyes helped more than they realized it would,” she shares. She aims to help students find methods to take the stress out of writing and editing.
Annah describes her approach as “open, empathetic, and communicative.” She fosters an “inclusive and comfortable” learning space where students are encouraged to ask questions and set goals. “I want to ensure that there will be understanding and collaboration in working towards developing their skills; I also want to ensure that students are able to voice their needs for further clarification or practice,” she explains. Above all, she wants her students to feel seen and validated for their unique processes.
Her academic prowess earned her a spot in Miami University's Honors Program; she was also involved with Miami University’s Inklings Arts and Letters Literary Magazine from 2020 to 2024. At Northwestern, she won the Witty Fellowship for outstanding academic achievement. She’s part of the Asian American Association and the Spectrum LGBTQ+ organization.
When she’s not tutoring or studying, she loves crochet and other crafting hobbies. “I’ve been exploring lino-cut carving and painting,” she shares. She also loves perusing thrift stores, exploring her city, and hiking nearby trails. Fun fact: she has a pet chinchilla, who also likely plays the role of co-teacher!
