PrepNow Tutor - Yasmin N.
Yasmin is a motivated, diligent tutor with over 6 years of experience teaching 3rd-8th-grade math and science in the classroom. She specializes in courses like algebra I & II, calculus, chemistry, organic chemistry, and SAT/ACT prep. She holds a BS in biochemistry and neuroscience from the University of Texas at Dallas and an MS in data analytics from the University of Houston Downtown. After a few years of medical school, she discovered her passion for education and became a math and science teacher. In addition to tutoring, she works as a data analyst.
One of her proudest moments as a teacher was helping a discouraged 6th-grade student develop a strong foundation and greater confidence in math. “With patience and encouragement, she not only significantly improved academically in math but also nearly mastered the state exams at the end of the year,” she recalls. This student kept in touch and even visited years later—Yasmin was jazzed to learn the student had an A in honors-level math and was even tutoring peers!
Yasmin describes her approach as data-driven and student-focused. “When I tutor, I assess how to best provide academic support for the student based on their performance, background knowledge, and current understanding of the materials,” she explains. Her years of experience working with students of various levels lend her the know-how to adapt and pivot to best suit her students’ needs and learning preferences.
As an undergrad, she earned several scholarships for academic excellence and was on the dean’s list. With aspirations to attend medical school at the time, she was an active member of the Neuroscience Student Association. Later, the University of Houston awarded her a Graduate Excellence Scholarship for her high academic rank. In graduate school, she served as a Teaching Assistant for Introduction to Statistics with Programming and was involved in the Data Science society and Gator Crew.
In her free time, she loves spending time with family and friends, reading, running, yoga, and reveling in nature. “Last month, I visited 2 national parks for the first time and look forward to experiencing more national parks throughout the US!”
