PrepNow Tutor - Jaron W.
A well-rounded and patient tutor with experience in subjects that reach beyond mathematics and science, Jaron loves to see his students succeed. He holds a BS cum laude in both mathematics and physics from Louisiana Tech University; he has completed coursework for a mathematics PhD program at the University of Kansas. In addition to tutoring, Jaron works as the manager of customer service for a music education business.
Jaron began tutoring in high school, helping his classmates with chemistry and physics. He continued this work more formally in college and has since supported students in algebra, pre-calculus, AP Calculus, and test prep. His teaching experience also includes leading college algebra courses at the University of Kansas through the Kansas Algebra Program. He’s always especially proud of the bittersweet moments when a student no longer needs his help.
“During my tutoring sessions, I like to ask questions to open up a direction in which the student's mind can be pointed,” Jaron says. “Letting a student’s mind wander aloud with my questions acting as proverbial 'bumpers' allows them to reach the answer of their own accord, and have a moment of realization.” He posits that anyone can learn anything, and his favorite students to work with tend to be those who believe they cannot learn the topic because Jaron knows that he can then prove them wrong. “I am willing to approach problems in multiple ways to find which reframing best suits my student,” he says.
In high school, Jaron was involved in band, choir, show choir, theater, and the Children's Chorus of Greater Dallas. In college, he was involved in Chamber Singers and the Society of Physics Students. He sings with the Dallas Symphony Chorus and plays the horn for the orchestra at First United Methodist Church Richardson. He enjoys reading, playing Dungeons and Dragons with friends, as well as walking and jogging to stay active. “I have sung in the church where Bach wrote most of his music,” Jaron shares.
