PrepNow Tutor - Connor S.
A passionate and driven scientist who enjoys helping students grasp complex subjects, Connor holds two degrees: a PhD in analytical chemistry from the University of Massachusetts Lowell; and a BS in chemistry with minors in math, physics, and education from Salem State University. He is a published scientific author with over ten published papers. Connor is currently tutoring test prep while pursuing full-time employment.
Connor tutored throughout college and served as a chemistry lab instructor for three years during grad school. His proudest moment as a teacher has been helping design multiple general chemistry labs that are still currently in use at UMass Lowell.
Throughout his career, Connor has tutored students at both the college and high school levels in physics and chemistry, as well as high school students in SAT/ACT prep. “I’ve helped students strengthen core skills, work through practice sections, and build practical study and test-taking strategies.” Connor is a strong test prep tutor because he’s excellent at breaking complex problems into clear, manageable steps. “I listen closely to where students struggle and tailor my approach so the strategies make sense to them,” Connor explains. “I enjoy test prep because it gives students fast, visible growth, and watching their confidence rise and seeing them reach scores they didn’t think were possible is incredibly rewarding.”
When asked about his tutoring style, Connor says, “I prefer to be more direct with the student and start where they are having the most trouble. From there, I like to understand their thought process and discover any issues that might be causing their difficulties with the subject matter.” Connor believes that helping his students succeed is more than just teaching them the material, and that teaching strong study habits and test-taking skills is just as critical.
As a student, Connor was the Science Team Captain and involved in the Ultimate Frisbee Club, Boy Scouts, and American Chemical Society Honors Society. He is an avid reader and loves to cook, watch sports, walk his dog, go to concerts, and have game nights with his friends. He is a fan of all the New England sports teams. “I have played the bass guitar since middle school,” Connor shares.
