PrepNow Tutor - Liesha Y.
A tutor who loves working with students and making a positive impact, Liesha holds a BS summa cum laude in behavioral neuroscience from Northeastern University. While an undergraduate, she worked in the genetics lab as a teaching assistant. Since graduating, in addition to tutoring test prep, Liesha has worked as a medical assistant and is preparing to matriculate into medical school next year. “I am a dedicated and initiative-driven educator with a strong foundation in science and academic mentorship,” Liesha says. “I bring a patient, organized, and student-centered approach to every learning environment, and I love helping students grow confident in complex subjects and reach goals they once thought were out of reach.”
Liesha started tutoring at a learning center in high school, working with elementary and middle school students across all core subjects. In college, she became a peer tutor and later a teaching assistant for a genetics and molecular biology computational lab, supporting students experiencing challenging coursework. During this time, she also tutored statistics and calculus I. “My proudest moments come when a student realizes they are capable of more than they believed, whether that is choosing a future career path or finally understanding a difficult concept. I love guiding those moments of growth and clarity,” Liesha says.
Liesha’s quantitative background is strong, and she earned a perfect score on the SAT math section, making her an excellent instructor of arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra I and II, geometry, trigonometry, and applied problem solving. “My test prep strength comes from being able to identify patterns in questions, teach efficient solution methods, and help students build the confidence needed to perform under time pressure,” Liesha says.
Liesha’s teaching style is collaborative, patient, and highly adaptive to each student’s needs. “I believe learning works best when the tutor and student function as partners who share goals and communicate openly, so I tailor explanations to match the student’s pace and preferred way of thinking,” she explains. “I value clarity, positive reinforcement, and building problem-solving habits because I want students to leave each session not only understanding the material but also feeling more capable and confident overall.” Liehsa understands the structure and logic of standardized exams and can teach students how to approach questions strategically rather than rely on memorization; and her background in neuroscience, statistics, and computational coursework allows her to break math concepts into clear, manageable steps.
In high school, Liesha was involved in classical dance, tutoring, and community programs that supported local education. Outside of work, she enjoys running and is currently training for a half-marathon. She also spends time on photography, which gives her a creative outlet and helps her stay balanced. “I have trained and performed as a classical dancer for many years, and I have also taught dance to younger students,” Liesha shares.
