PrepNow Tutor - Hulda F.
A highly motivated tutor who loves to make an impact on her community and empower her students, Hulda holds a BA from Brandeis University, where she triple majored in the following: sociology; women, gender, and sexualities studies; and Latin America and Caribbean studies. While in college, Hulda found her passion for working in education through her work as a teacher's assistant at a daycare center. “I understood during that time the power that education makes at a young age,” Hulda shares. After graduation, she was an AmeriCorps Member at CityYear Boston and a Curriculum Fellow at Discovering Justice. Since returning to Texas, Hulda has taught and mentored high school students through a workforce development and college access program, where she’s currently serving as the Program Coordinator to the Program Manager.
As the oldest sibling in her family, Hulda has always acted as a mentor. “The role of supporting and teaching has always come naturally to me,” she says. Hulda’s proudest tutoring moment is when her student won the Dell Scholarship after they worked together on his essays. Through her career, Hulda has taught test prep, social-emotional learning, professional skills, and high school academic subjects, including math.
Hulda’s teaching style is relationship-centered, goal-oriented, and supportive. “I believe everyone deserves access to education and opportunities that empower their lives, so I focus on building trust and creating a shared understanding of each student’s goals and expectations,” Hulda says. “I take time to learn their strengths and challenges, and I break down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps so they can understand the ‘why’ behind the work and build lasting confidence.” At the core of Hulda’s philosophy is meeting students where they are, removing barriers, and helping them reach their full potential.
A first-generation college graduate, Hulda was on the dean’s list and participated in Name That Book, EMERGE, Hospital Volunteer, NHS, Women's Advocacy Groups, and Latinx Club. She studied abroad in Spain. She loves spending time with family, reading, scrapbooking, cooking, making clay art, working out, walking in parks, and spending time with her cat.
