PrepNow Tutor - Paige A.
Paige holds a BA in philosophy and music performance from Carleton College, where she received the S. Eugene Bailey Scholarship and graduated with honors. In addition to tutoring test prep, she currently works as a behavior technician and paraprofessional at her local high school, mentoring and teaching students in the special education department. She’s also the assistant head coach of the softball team and a cello instructor.
“Being the oldest sibling, I think it was my two younger siblings that got me into tutoring at a young age,” Paige says. “I loved helping them out with their homework when my parents were at work.” She tutored formally throughout high school, working with middle schoolers and high schoolers in algebra, algebra 2, pre-calculus, and geometry. In college, she mentored students on executive functioning skills, time management, essay writing, and English through the campus’s Department of Accessibility resources center. In her current role teaching in the special ed program, she regularly tutors students on SAT and ACT prep and a variety of academic subjects, including science, math, English, and German.
“I firmly believe that every student deserves an amazing education, and that once a student starts believing that they can accomplish their dreams and they have the proper support, they will be able to succeed in their goals,” Paige says. Paige strives not to give students the answers but instead the tools to solve problems of different varieties with the same logic. “Learning how the ACT/SAT works, for example, is not a matter of memorizing formulas or problem types, instead it is having a solid understanding of the logic and structure behind the questions, stimuli, and answer choices,” Paige explains. Paige especially loves working with students who have disabilities and are overlooked. “They always make my day when I work with them!”
In high school, Paige played volleyball and softball, and participated in speech, math club, Scholastic Bowl, German club, Youth and Government, NHS, and various orchestral ensembles. In college, she played NCAA softball and club hockey, as well as performed in various instrumental ensembles and solo work. She was also active in the German club, the astronomy club, beach volleyball, and Ethics Bowl.
“When I'm not working, I love being outside doing anything active,” Paige shares. “Whether it be shooting hockey pucks in the winter or playing beach volleyball in the summer, I'm always down for anything competitive! When I'm not outside, I love cooking and baking for family and friends, reading books of literally any genre, or playing in a string quartet with my siblings.”
