PrepNow Tutor - Daniel G.
Daniel knew by middle school that his future lay in the study of math: as a middle-school and then as a high-school student, he scored highly in American Mathematics Competitions, even qualifying for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination multiple years. It was natural, therefore, that Daniel earned a BS in math and computer science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Following his graduation, he worked for years as a math tutor for a national corporation, aiding K-12 students in practically all math areas, including arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, and calculus. Thereafter, he expanded his repertoire to tutor test-prep students, English students, and science students. Thus, though his primary love has always been math, Daniel arrives at StudyPoint with experience in and an appreciation of multiple disciplines.
Daniel’s tutoring philosophy is informed by his own experiences as a student and by his training. First, because Daniel found a love of math early in his life, he knows that students can become legitimately engaged by learning. Second, he knows that rote memorization or singular learning approaches can be effective in the short term but do not yield long-term results. He posits, “Having the ability to logically understand and follow a process while using a fundamental understanding of underlying concepts is a far more reliable framework within which to operate, one that significantly bolsters comprehension and fluency.” For Daniel, then, helping students develop critical thinking skills is paramount, and he believes that doing so can lead to students becoming as engaged as he did with math.
Outside of learning environments, Daniel has always had varied interests. In high school, he played tennis and competed as part of the Super Smash Bros. league (that’s a multi-player Nintendo game). Back then and to this day, Daniel has always been an avid drawer, even taking the time to animate occasionally. Finally, a lot of free time these days is taken up caring for a pretty large cat and a very small dog – a pair that Daniel argues just loves to tolerate each other.
