PrepNow Tutor - Evangelina B.
Evangelina has experience working with middle school and undergraduate students. She earned a BS in pathobiology from the University of Connecticut, where she was a teaching assistant for a biomedical technique and laboratory course, helping students set up lab experiments and understand how to apply math concepts to their work.
She began tutoring in high school as a writing center tutor for middle schoolers. Her experiences in lab, healthcare, and customer service environments have polished her communication skills, allowing her to build strong, convivial relationships with her tutees. She loves witnessing young learners successfully master new skills with confidence.
She describes her tutoring style as flexible and fun. “If I provide an approach to a problem that the student isn't able to understand, I think about other ways to approach it that might make more sense for the student,” she notes. Instead of lecture-based sessions, she tailors each session to the student's communication style and needs so that they feel seen, heard, and empowered in their learning journey.
In high school, she received awards for both the National Latin Exam (Maxima Cum Laude, 2018) and the National Spanish Exam (Premio de Plata, 2019). She was a Girl Scout and a trained dancer in pointe, ballet, tap, and jazz. In college, she was part of the UConn Scouting Association, a co-ed Boys and Girl Scouts organization that taught merit badges; she also tap danced with the UConn Tap Club.
In her free time, she enjoys reading, baking, walking, sewing, and watercolor painting. Fun fact: “I've been tap dancing since I was 4 years old!”
