PrepNow Tutor - Samantha A.
A tutor passionate about fostering a global sense of community, Samantha holds a BA summa cum laude in global studies with a minor in Spanish from Pennsylvania State University. After graduating, Samantha worked as a baker before transitioning to a role as a remote grant writer for a nonprofit animal rescue organization while traveling across Europe. She’s now tutoring test prep while exploring career options. “I view myself as a lifelong learner, a creative, and someone with high intrinsic motivation,” Samantha says. “In life, I believe in approaching every situation with kindness, patience, and confidence.”
As the oldest sibling, mentorship has always come naturally to Samantha. In high school, this led to her working and volunteering as a tutor; and in college, she pursued the path more earnestly, serving as a teacher's assistant through an internship in Spain and tutoring at her campus’s writing center. “A recurring moment that always leaves me feeling fulfilled while tutoring is when I witness a student's confidence in themselves be restored,” Samantha shares. Throughout her tutoring career, Samantha has worked with students of all ages in a variety of subjects from pre-K to college level.
“I adapt my tutoring style based on the individual needs of every student,” Samantha shares. “Ensuring that every student is comfortable is the foundational start of a successful session; that way, there can be honest communication surrounding struggles and confusion—things that can feel vulnerable and frustrating to share aloud in the wrong environment.” Samantha always provides support, reassurance, and explanations that don't merely give answers but instead explain the method behind it. “My role as a tutor is to eliminate confusion, instill confidence, and show students that we are all so much more capable than we often give ourselves credit for,” Samantha says.
In high school, Samantha participated in Stage Crew and World Language Club. In college, she was an active member of the Sustainability Council, was the recipient of numerous awards, and presented independent research; additionally, she co-authored a paper with her English professor, titled “Can AI Be a Co-Author? How Generative AI Challenges the Boundaries of Authorship in a General Education Writing Class.” Samantha loves to travel, cook, and bake. She especially enjoys returning home from traveling and attempting to replicate international dishes, such as Portugal's infamous pastel de nata or Poland's homemade pierogies. “I’m always language-learning and enjoy reading, creative writing, and drawing.”
