PrepNow Tutor - Emily P.
A curious learner and natural leader, EmilyJo holds an MS in supply chain management from East Texas A&M University and a BS in human sciences from Texas Tech University. From 2022 to 2025, she worked as an academic and test prep instructor at a nonprofit technical school that serves at-risk youth, where she is currently a lead case manager. EmilyJo also tutors test prep and works for the Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth as-needed.
“I started tutoring in middle school after my math teacher found out that I had a unique relationship with a student who did not do well in group settings,” EmilyJo shares. “I was able to have a private teaching moment before class, tutor the student after class, and I found fulfillment helping that student.” EmilyJo continued to tutor throughout high school and college, and continues to love teaching. One of EmilyJo’s proudest moments as an educator was supporting a student who was forced out of their home at eighteen but continued attending class and earned their GED four months later—returning two years afterward to proudly share that they earned their first paycheck.
EmilyJo is always flexible when tutoring. “I start out gathering the understanding of the material: What does the student know? What gaps does the student have? Then I double check foundations and go with how the student learns,” EmilyJo explains. “Some students need visuals, others need confidence, and still some need everything in between. I believe that learning needs errors and mistakes. Perseverance is the deciding factor in success.” EmilyJo has taught reasoning through language arts, reasoning through math, as well as social studies and science.
As a student, EmilyJo was on the President's Honor List and participated in color guard and winter guard. She is an avid reader and loves to do arts and crafts, including painting, crocheting, and making collages. “I am left handed!”
