PrepNow Tutor - Lindsay B.
Since 2019, Lindsay has taught various information theory and programming courses to graduate and undergraduate students alike. She has three degrees from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor: a BA in communication studies and a minor in applied statistics; a master of health informatics; and a PhD in information studies. Lindsay has worked as a researcher and instructor at the University of Michigan for several years, and, as of Spring 2026, works as an operational analyst and executive assistant in a healthcare company.
Lindsay started student teaching as part of her graduate studies, working with both master's students and undergraduates. "My proudest and most enjoyable moments as a teacher have come from the times when I was able to explain how lines of code were working and help students come to an understanding of not just where a bug was in their code but why the code was functioning as it was," she explains. "Finding the explanation that works and seeing it click with your student is a very rewarding experience." Lindsay has taught Python programming, data visualization, information theory, and health informatics management.
Lindsay describes her teaching style as collaborative and adaptive. "Though I may have specific things I want or need students to learn, I try to give students space to bring their own skills and knowledge to the equation," she says. "There's great value in listening to students and meeting them where they're at rather than trying to teach at them." Lindsay puts a premium on understanding how a student is thinking about a problem, as it gives her a better idea of how to help them find their own way to the answer.
In high school, Lindsay participated in varsity bowling, the art guild, and the Spanish club. She's proud to share that she has published multiple peer-reviewed papers, including two selected as exemplars for theoretical understandings in her research field.
These days, she enjoys sewing garments and plush; reading; listening to music; playing cards, board games, and video games; and mastering puzzles. Fun fact: Lindsay is one of six siblings!
