PrepNow Tutor - Louis K.
Louis, who uses he/they pronouns, has taught in classrooms and online, and he has tutored all sections of the ACT and SAT. He graduated with a BS in education (4th-8th grade social studies and ELA) from Texas A&M University. As a student, he taught 5th-grade social studies and 7th-grade ELA. After graduation, he pivoted to teaching online math and ELA as well as SAT and ACT preparation at a learning center.
"I was inspired by many of my wonderful teachers growing up," Louis says when asked about why they chose the teaching profession. Their proudest teaching moments are when they can see the information "click" in a student's eyes.
"I would describe my teaching style as student-oriented, focusing on inquiry and curiosity," says Louis. "I don't just want my students to know how to do 'xyz' for a problem, I want them to know the why and how something works, and want them to extend that into thinking why and how other things work as well," he adds. Louis works hard to connect course materials with a student's personal interests. "I find that making cross-subject connections often leads to a curious student, and I work to make a student always want to know more," he shares.
In high school, Louis was involved in UIL Math/Calculator/Computer Science, which are academic competitions unique to Texas; they were also in One Act Play. In college, they were busy with the TAMU Esports Club and TAMU Collegiate League of Legends Team. Louis was also a TAMU Esports Streamer.
Currently, Louis enjoys singing, playing music, and tabletop gaming with his wife and friends.
Fun fact: "My wife and I collect too many stuffed animals, which we call our 'children.'"
