PrepNow Tutor - Matthew X.
“I enjoy failure because only failure proves to me that I am operating at my maximum potential.” Matthew is an AI trainer and STEM expert who is fresh out of college. He says, “I have a strong desire for exponential personal growth and I feel compelled to help others learn how fulfilling that growth is.” Matthew attended Purdue University where he earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry. He is also a pianist who received the Paderewski Medal from the National Guild of Piano Teachers.
After Matthew had taken the SAT, he began tutoring as a side gig. He found it very enjoyable. Primarily he focused his tutoring on the mathematics section of the SAT as well as mathematics topics from elementary to high school. He has taken the GMAT and the LSAT and is comfortable tutoring for both. His proudest moment was watching a student do a practice exam and not only answer every question correctly, but also use tricks to answer some questions.
“My style hinges on the student communicating a lot,” Matthew says. Matthew doesn’t accept “I don’t know” as an answer “because it’s guaranteed that you can at least finagle some details or ideas in order to solve that problem.” Using those details as a jumping-off point, Matthew will guide his student into an in-depth analysis of the question. That might entail discussing potential tricks in the problem or looking at shortcuts after they’ve solved it. “My core philosophy is that I refuse to impose my own tactics onto students, but I instead make their own way of thinking more efficient.”
In his spare time to relax, Matthew enjoys playing piano as well as online games. He likes reading, but also likes to get outside—either to hike or cycle. He also likes donkeys because they are very cute.
