PrepNow Tutor - Brennan K.
A hard-working, easy-going tutor who enjoys learning new things, Brennan uses communication and motivation to set attainable goals. “I like helping students build their confidence both in normal studies and real life,” Brennan says. He holds an AGS from Macomb Community College and a BS in actuarial science with a minor in mathematics from Wayne State University. After graduating, Brennan worked as a private tutor before transitioning into his current role as a financial advisor at a bank. “I now help people of all ages maximize their earnings and find financial freedom.”
Brennan initially started tutoring as a way to make some extra money in college. “But I really fell in love with seeing people grow and change,” he reflects. “One of the first clients I had was a really bright kid but he did not want to listen or do any work. He started the year on a decline and was getting Ds. Together we worked to build trust and learn with one another.” Over the course of the next few months, Brennan’s student’s grades rose to B’s and A’s. “We shared a bond in doing that together,” Brennan says. “He is now set to graduate soon, and I could not be more proud of the man he has turned out to be.”
Throughout his career, Brennan has tutored first through twelfth grade across subjects, but particularly in math, science, and test prep. In math, he has tutored algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus I-III, and trigonometry. In science, he’s tutored chemistry, biology, physical science, environmental science, and physics. “I believe students should be comfortable when learning, as it helps them want to learn,” Brennan says. “I try to find a middle ground with students and make personal connections. This helps connect problems to the real world and make learning relatable to them. Understanding what makes a student happy can help them to want to learn.”
In high school, Brennan worked as a martial arts instructor. “I also trained for 15 years and achieved my black belt.” In college, he worked as an intramural referee and played all kinds of different sports, including basketball, badminton, volleyball, flag football, soccer, cricket, and floor hockey. He currently plays in a basketball league through the local church; he enjoys fishing, going out on his boat, walking and golfing with his fiancée, playing video games, and watching movies with his two cats. “I have an indoor garden in my apartment, and one day I will grow a watermelon!”
