PrepNow Tutor - Jane L.
Jane has tutored 3rd-5th grade English and math and taught 6-12th grade English (as an International Culture and Language Assistant) in Spain. As an undergraduate, she also tutored peers in higher-level maths. Her kind, outgoing personality allows her to develop great rapport with students of various ages and backgrounds.
Jane earned a BS in mathematics with a concentration in applied mathematics and a minor in computing technology and applications from the University of Alabama. After graduating, she worked as an IDEA Scholar at Nemours Children's Health, where she led community health initiatives confronting healthcare disparities throughout the Delaware Valley. More recently, she earned a master’s in biomedical sciences from Geisinger College of Health Sciences. In addition to helping students, she’s eager to apply to medical school in late 2026!
Her experiences tutoring elementary students via a mentor program at the University of Alabama allowed her to practice adaptability and patience in the classroom. “My proudest moment when I tutor is the moment when the information that I'm teaching clicks with the student, and they understand the material a little better,” she notes.
“My teaching style is asking questions and explaining why things are right and wrong in great detail,” says Jane. Her bright, supportive energy motivates students to engage in dedicated practice on a deeper level. She wants the learning experience to feel not only fun but safe and empowering. “I try to create a safe, judgement-free zone where there are no dumb questions so the student feels comfortable asking me anything,” she adds.
Jane graduated high school with cum laude honors, and in college, received merit scholarships for her stellar SAT score and overall academic performance. In high school, she was in the Women in Science club, organized an FOP Holiday party for special needs students in the district, and was part of the school theatre program’s stage crew. At the University of Alabama, she volunteered as a tutor and mentor, joined a sorority, and worked as a dorm front desk assistant.
In her free time, she enjoys painting and crafting. A baseball—Philadelphia Phillies—fan, she loves going to games and has a goal to visit all 30 MLB stadiums. To unwind, she loves reading and watching movies, especially with her dogs, Thor and Peanut.
