PrepNow Tutor - Darya O.
Darya has extensive experience tutoring students in many subjects, mentoring student teachers, and working in special education. She earned several credentials from Wayne State University in Detroit: a BS in business administration, an MS in education, and a PhD in special education and educational leadership with a certificate in general and special education (Pre-K through 12th).
Darya started teaching in the Royal Oak School District, where she assisted learners in need of high school credits and helped the district boost test scores. She is currently an educator and teacher consultant for the Royal Oak School District. "I have helped schools reach compliance through programs involving tutoring, testing, and curriculum, in both general and special education," she explains. She has also taught adult education, covering reading, algebra, and geometry. "I am most proud of my special needs students who learned alongside their same-age peers," she shares.
"My teaching style is, 'I do. We do. You do.' I teach this way to help learners see the benefits of scaffolding learning," Darya elaborates. "Learners should understand that learning just doesn't fall out of the sky; it's something that you build on." Darya also includes a healthy amount of laughter and smiles when she teaches, "to help with engagement and decrease anxiety."
As a student, Darya enjoyed playing softball. She currently chills out to dramas and music. "I am the author and founder of a small book company," she adds. "I present at conferences across the state."
